Working at Amobee as a New Graduate
I joined Amobee as a Technical Solutions Engineer in February 2017 after graduating from the University of Illinois, at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) with a Masters Degree in Computer Science. Marketing technology field is an exciting place for computer science professionals to work at, as the industry is rapidly growing and technology must constantly evolve to keep up. While there are many things about the marketing technology field that keep me fascinated and engaged, my decision to join Amobee jump-started my career and has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
One of the things I enjoy the most is that Amobee is operated on the premise that employees are the most valuable part of the organization. They have cultivated a fun and engaging culture where employees are excited to come to work in the morning. When I first started at Amobee, I was a stranger to the digital marketing field. What I have since learned is that the essence of digital marketing is to better understand a client’s potential customers. With Amobee’s advanced technology platform combined with the power of telco data, the company is a leader in the digital marketing space.
Upon becoming a part of the Amobee team, I was challenged to solve difficult technical problems for an industry I knew little about. Now that I’m up to speed with the digital marketing industry, I’m able to work independently on various projects. I never thought I would be able to learn system design, the basics of distributed systems, and many other technologies in such a quick span of time. The digital marketing field is a constantly changing and rapidly growing industry and the cutting-edge technologies that we consistently adapt to never fail to appeal to my geeky side.
My favorite part about working for Amobee is the support and guidance available for employees; it truly differentiates Amobee from competitors. A new engineer will never feel alone at Amobee. From the day- one welcome package, to the monthly birthday celebrations and holiday parties, Amobee employees are encouraged to work together with humility and passion to achieve success. The end result is engineers that are passionate about what they create.
In my role at Amobee as a Technical Solutions Engineer (TSE), my primary responsibility is to troubleshoot and resolve critical technical issues within the platform. I have developed an expert knowledge of our platform while maintaining the opportunity to experiment with other technology platforms. The technical challenges within this role range from debugging critical revenue impacting priority issues to explaining product behavior and design to the client. The breadth of work my position requires me to do is both challenging and rewarding.
In addition to developing my technical skills, my frequent dialogue with cross-functional teams within the organization has strengthened my communication and interpersonal skills. As a non-native English speaker who first came to the U.S. five years ago, my communication skills and understanding of the English language as a whole have improved more during my time with Amobee than during my time in both undergraduate and graduate programs combined.
The number one thing to remember about working at Amobee is that we love to have fun. Almost every engineer attended the Hackathon this year, where participants formed teams and discussed topics that ranged from product optimization to predicting stock market trends. Our team also created a LEGO ping pong machine that went on to win the People’s Choice Award! We keep very busy with team lunches, ping pong tournaments, holiday parties, summer outings, and so many other fun activities. If you are looking for an amazing place to begin your career, Amobee is the place to do it.
I am lucky to launch my career at Amobee and I’m excited about the journey ahead.
